Anxiety: Anxiety is a normal part of life. Many teens experience worry or fear before a test, a new social situation or before making an important decision. Anxiety disorders involve more than temporary worry or fear. For a person with an anxiety disorder, the anxiety does not go away and gets worse over time. The symptoms interfere with daily activities such as school, work, and relationships. Anxiety becomes a harmful disorder when the anxiety becomes chronic, lasting 6 months or longer.
