    Definitions

    Peer Group: a group of people of similar age, background, and social status, with whom a person associates and who are likely to influence the person's behavior and beliefs.

    Peer Pressure: social pressure by members of one's peer group to take a certain action, adopt certain values, or conform to be accepted.

    Direct Peer Pressure: when a peer is directly telling you or pressuring you to do something.

    Indirect Peer Pressure: when you see a group of other people doing something and you want to do it too because it seems fun or because you want to fit in.

      Defintions

      Peers: Other kids around the same age or in the same grade as you.

      Pressure: When there is force upon an object or in this case a person.

      Peer Pressure: When other kids put pressure on you to believe or behave in a certain way.

      Direct Pressure: When a peer is directly telling you or pressuring you to do something.

      Indirect Pressure: When you see a group of other people doing something and you want to do it too because it seems fun or because you want to fit in.

      Negative Peer Pressure: When you make a choice to do something wrong, unhealthy, or risky because you think "everybody" else is doing it.

      Positive Peer Pressure: When you make a choice to do the right or healthy thing because you think "everybody" else is doing it.

      Communication: the process of sending and receiving messages through verbal or nonverbal means.

      Verbal communication: effectively presenting your thoughts through talking.

      Nonverbal communication: the act of conveying a thought, feeling, or idea through physical gestures, posture, and facial expressions.

      Active listening: the practice of being present and engaged with what a speaker is saying and indicating understanding, through verbal and nonverbal feedback.

      Selective listening: the practice of paying attention to only the things that you want to hear; filtering the speaker’s message and selecting from what he or she says, a part that affects you or that interests you most.

      Assertive communication: the act of expressing thoughts, feelings, and personal needs honestly and openly, while respecting and valuing the opinion of others.
